Department of Corporate Services

The Corporate Services
Department (CSD) was
established to eliminate
redundant tasks across the
core departments, enabling
them to concentrate on their
primary functions and
ensuring the efficient
utilization of staff resources.
This enables CSD to ensure
uniform quality in service
delivery.

Department of Budget

The Budget Department serves
as a cornerstone of
Botswana’s socio-economic
advancement by strategically
aligning both development
and recurrent financial
resources with the nation’s
priorities and the aspirations
of its citizens. It champions a
budget process that is
transparent, inclusive, and
impactful, empowering every
stakeholder to understand
how public funds drive
national progress.

Department of Internal Audit

The Department of Internal Audit
(DIA) provides independent,
objective assurance and
consulting services to Ministries,
Departments and Agencies
(MDAs) to improve the
effectiveness of risk management,
internal control, and governance
systems. The Department derives
its mandate from Sections 11 and
12 of the Public Finance
Management (PFM) Act of 2011.

Department of FIA

The Financial Intelligence
Agency (FIA) is statutorily
mandated to act as a central
Agency responsible for
requesting, receiving,
analyzing and disseminating to
an investigatory authority,
supervisory authority or
comparable body, disclosures
of financial information,
concerning suspicious
transactions, required by or
under any enactment in order
to counter financial offenses;

Office of the Account General

The Office of the Accountant
General (OAG) is responsible
for managing public finances
in line with national laws and
regulations.

Department of Research

The Research Department
serves as the analytical hub of
the Ministry of Finance,
providing evidence-based
research, data, and policy
analysis to support sound
fiscal and economic decision-
making. Our mission is to
generate and disseminate
timely, accurate, and relevant
information that informs
policy formulation, enhances
transparency, and stimulates
public debate on key
macroeconomic and financial
issues.

Macroeconomic Policy

The Macroeconomic Policy
Section provides advice and
overall economic policy
management. The Section is
mandated with the overall
responsibility of coordinating the
preparation of annual budget
speech, preparation of economic
reports and coordination of
multilateral cooperation matters.
