The President Duma Gideon Boko has indicated that the purpose of the Botswana Economic Transformation Programme labs is to refine, align and to raise the work of the labs to the levels desired by the nation. The President pointedly spoke of the βTrue Northβ, which is the development trajectory that he wants the country to reach. According to President Boko, βThat True North envisions a high-income status Botswana that is digitally enabled, export driven, people-centric, and economically diversified; a Botswana in which every citizen enjoys equal opportunity, is employed, empowered, and fulfilledβ.
In his address, President Boko pointed out that the Financial Services and Digitalisation Lab produced a comprehensive mapping of the national digital landscape and ecosystem, identifying reforms to build an inclusive and secure ecosystem, whereas in agriculture bankable projects that will move the country from import dependence to both import substitution and export orientation have been identified to ensure food security as well as creating livelihoods.
The attendees were all encouraged to stay committed, accountable, and to be united in order to have a transformed Botswana. The President emphasised that transformation is not a choice for Botswana but a destiny that everyone should aspire to achieve.
The President reiterated that delivery is the only measure of leadership, urging his Cabinet colleagues to measure up to drive the transformation agenda.
